A weekend getaway from Pune, worth the drive
Swap the crowded ghats for an empty valley. Hiranya is about four and a half hours from Pune by road, on the banks of a 700-year-old lake between Daulatabad Fort and the Ellora Caves.
The drive
Head out on the Pune–Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) road towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, then take the Ellora Road to Daulatabad. It's about 240 km with good highway most of the way. Leave by 7 am and you'll be by the pool for lunch.
