Where to stay for Ajanta & Ellora
Ajanta and Ellora are 120 km apart. Trying both in one day means eight hours in a car and rushed caves. Staying at Hiranya puts you 8 km from Ellora and gives you a calm base for an early run to Ajanta the next day.
A three-day plan
Day 1: arrive, Daulatabad Fort at sunset, dinner by the waterfall. Day 2: Ellora at opening time (the Kailasa Temple first), Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga, Khuldabad, then the pool. Day 3: leave early for Ajanta (open Tuesday to Sunday, 6 am to 5:30 pm) and be back for a bonfire.

Not comfortably. Ajanta is about 2.5 hours from Ellora, so plan separate days.

Ellora is closed on Tuesdays; Ajanta is open Tuesday to Sunday, so it is closed on Mondays.
