A weekend escape from Mumbai & Thane
We won't pretend we're next door, but thanks to the Samruddhi Expressway we're closer than you think. It's about four hours from Thane and 5 km from the expressway exit. You swap weekend traffic for a 700-year-old lake, fifteen green acres and the Ellora Caves down the road.
Three ways to get here
Drive: take the Samruddhi Mahamarg from Thane or Bhiwandi. It's about four hours of smooth expressway, and we're 5 km from the exit. Train: the Vande Bharat and Deccan Jan Shatabdi run from Mumbai CSMT to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar station; we're about 35–40 minutes from the station. Fly: IndiGo flies from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to Aurangabad airport, 35–40 minutes from us. Ask for a pickup and we'll be waiting.
Why make the trip
Resorts near Thane and Lonavala are close but crowded on weekends. Hiranya gives you lake mist at dawn, langurs in the trees, a pool, bonfires, the Milky Way on clear nights, and two UNESCO World Heritage sites, Ellora and Ajanta, to add to the trip.
A two-night plan
Friday: leave after work, arrive by dinner. Saturday: dawn kayak, the Ellora Caves before the crowds, a pool afternoon, a sunset trek, then a bonfire. Sunday: a birding walk, Daulatabad Fort, lunch by the waterfall, then drive home. Ellora is closed on Tuesdays.
Good to know
Free parking for about 100 cars, with EV charging points (not high-speed yet). Pets are welcome, so the dog can come too. Please book at least a day ahead; we don't take walk-ins.
