Motorcycling the Deccan: The Ultimate Route Guide from Hiranya Resort

Adventure & Travel · 2 min read

Hiranya Resort sits at a confluence of some of the finest motorcycling terrain in the Deccan. Within 150km of the property, you can ride through ancient trade routes, around meteor craters, past UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and through landscape that has barely changed in centuries. Here are the best routes.

THE FORT LOOP (50km, 2 hours): Hiranya Resort → Daultabad Fort → Khuldabad → Ellora Caves → Aurangabad city → return via Ellora Road. A perfect morning ride that combines history and landscape.

THE LONAR EXPEDITION (280km round trip, full day): Our flagship guided motorcycle adventure. Depart at 6am on the scenic back roads through Aurangabad district, riding through farming villages, basalt rock formations, and scrub forest. Arrive at Lonar by 9am. Spend 3 hours at the crater. Return via a different route through Aurangabad.

THE PAITHAN RIVER RIDE (100km, half day): Hiranya Resort → Paithan → Jayakwadi Dam on the Godavari River. Jayakwadi is one of Maharashtra's largest reservoirs and a spectacular sight in the post-monsoon season. The ride through the agricultural heartland of Marathwada is a window into authentic rural Maharashtra.

THE AJANTA TRAIL (240km round trip, full day): An early start is essential. The route to Ajanta passes through Sillod and Phulambri before climbing into the Sahyadri foothills. The morning light on the Ajanta cave facades — arriving as the gates open — is something motorcyclists particularly appreciate.

All guided rides are led by our experienced local guides who know every shortcut, chai stop, and scenic viewpoint. Rental motorcycles (150cc to 350cc) can be arranged through our front desk with 48 hours notice. Our secure parking handles up to 50 motorcycles for groups.
