How to Reach Aurangabad (Sambhajinagar): Flights, Trains, Buses and the Samruddhi Highway

Travel Guide · 2 min read

Aurangabad — officially renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar — is one of Maharashtra's most connected heritage destinations, despite its inland location. Here's every way to get here.

BY AIR:
Aurangabad Airport (IATA: IXU) receives daily flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. From Mumbai, the flight takes approximately 50 minutes, making it the fastest option for travellers from the west coast. Airlines operating the route include Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa Air (frequency varies by season — check current schedules). From the airport to Hiranya Resort is approximately 35 minutes by taxi.

BY ROAD FROM MUMBAI:
The Samruddhi Expressway (Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway) has transformed this journey. What was a slow 7-hour drive through congested highways is now a 4-hour express run on one of India's finest roads. Take the highway to the Aurangabad exit, and Hiranya Resort is just 5km from the toll point — making us one of the most accessible resorts from Mumbai in all of Maharashtra.

BY ROAD FROM PUNE:
NH 60 connects Pune to Aurangabad in approximately 4.5 hours across 240km. The road passes through Solapur and Latur districts — less dramatic than the Sahyadri coastal route but comfortable and well maintained.

BY TRAIN:
The Devgiri Express (from Mumbai CST), Tapovan Express (Mumbai–Manmad route with auto-connection), and Sachkhand Express (from Delhi) are the main trains. The Aurangabad railway station is about 25km from Hiranya Resort — taxis and autos are available, or we can arrange a resort pickup with 24 hours notice.

BY BUS:
Maharashtra State Road Transport runs comfortable semi-sleeper and sleeper buses from Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Hyderabad. Private luxury bus operators (VRL, Shyam, Neeta) also run comfortable overnight services from Mumbai and Pune.
