The question we get from guests who've spent a day at the Ellora Caves is always some version of: "Where can we sit down for a drink before dinner?" The honest answer is: come back to the resort.
The bar at Hiranya Resort is the only properly licensed drinking establishment in the immediate Ellora–Khuldabad area. The nearest alternatives are in Aurangabad city, 30km away. This is partly a function of the religious character of the region — Ellora and Khuldabad are pilgrimage zones — and it makes our bar something of a destination for travellers returning from the caves.
The bar is located in the restaurant building, which is open to the lakeside. Depending on the season, guests drink inside at the bar or at the outdoor deck tables overlooking the lake. From October through February, the outdoor setting in the late afternoon — with the fort changing colour as the sun descends — is particularly fine.
THE DRINKS:
We stock all major Indian and imported spirits, wines, and beers. For beer, we carry the standard brands and, distinctively, we are the only establishment in the Ellora region to serve craft beers from a small nearby Aurangabad microbrewery — rotating seasonal varieties that have become popular with returning guests.
Cocktails are available, made simply and well. Our bartender's versions of the Old Fashioned and the Mojito are consistently appreciated.
Bar hours: 11am to 11pm daily. Food service from the restaurant is available throughout bar hours. The bar is for resort guests and walk-in visitors above the age of 25 (Maharashtra legal drinking age). Valid government ID required.
